Beeb doubles up

What was going on with the festive telly this year?

What was going on with the festive telly this year?

Sorry if I’m repeating myself, but I got the bug from Auntie Beeb.

I know there is a credit crunch on but the New Year’s Day telly showed that cutbacks have reached dire proportions on the box.

A repeat of Wallace and Gromit on BBC1, barely a week after its first transmission, and pretty much the whole of BBC2 dedicated to a rehash that even made my cold Christmas turkey look tasty one week on.

No matter how fantastic Shooting Stars is and was, did it really need a repeat inside a week of the show and the accompanying documentary, alongside the hour-long Best of Coast – whatever that might mean.

It wasn’t just New Year’s Day either – this was going on right across the Christmas schedules.

Did the BBC think we might have missed those programmes they repeated? Do they not think people record programmes they want to watch but have something better to do?

New Year’s Day is a Bank Holiday and therefore, according to my childhood memories, a time for something different on the telly – even if it simply had the word “special” inserted somewhere in the title.

As it is we have endless EastEnders so come on Auntie Beeb you can do better than that for us licence payers.

If you’ve got a Christmas Special then please at least wait until next Christmas before serving it up again as less than tasty leftovers.
